About the Owners

Thai Chef is a “re-new-ed” street food restaurant that specializes in vendor food you would find along the streets of Bangkok. Entrees range from Moo-phing to BBQ pork on skewers to Kao-mun-gai, and herb studded jasmine rice with seasoned steamed chicken.

“We believe that if you haven’t had Thai street food, you haven’t had Thai food,” says owner Pornnapa Pongpornprot. “We hope to bring the taste of what it’s like to eat on a stick in Bangkok to Dupont Circle.”

The owners, Pornnapa and Chalisa, mother-daughter duo were born and raised in Bangkok, Thailand. Pornnapa, as a single mother, she originally moved to the U.S. to seek better education and career opportunities for her four daughters. However, her love of authentic Thai cuisine has paid off well beyond her expectations.

Through their persistence, they now own and operate two successful Thai restaurants in the D.C. Metro area. Early 2017, Pornnapa and her oldest daughter Chalisa foresaw a new market opportunity surrounding Bangkok street food and cocktails. In June 2017, they took over Thai Chef, renamed it Thai Chef Street Food, renovated it, and created new food and specialty cocktail menus with authentic recipes as if strolling the streets of Bangkok!
